Erin Lea Farm is located in Sanford, North Carolina, roughly 30 minutes south of Raleigh and 30 minutes north of Southern Pines. It is owned and operated by long time eventing rider, instructor, and horse enthusiast, Karen Mahaffey.

Karen Mahaffey has experience with many breeds and a wide variety of temperaments, from off-the-track thoroughbreds, to warmbloods, quarterhorses, paints, and ponies. Karen is ARICP certified, a participant in the USEA Instructor Certification Program and the USDF Instructor Certification workshops, and has experience competing and training throught he CCI** level. She has trained with many well-known instructors, such as, Mike Plumb, Captain Mark Phillips, Phillip Dutton, and Tim Grubb, and is currently working with Jimmy Wofford, John Williams, and Jim Koford.

Karen offers private, 1-on-1, instruction in Sanford, as well as other locations upon request. Erin Lea Farm students compete at all levels of eventing and receive instruction that emphasizes horsemanship, rider confidence, and safety. Training is based upon a solid foundation in dressagte, gymnastic work to improve jumping, and cofidence-building over cross country obstacles. Full (5 or 6 training rides per week) and partial (3 training rides per week) training board are avaliable at Erin Lea Farm. Though Karen normally keeps several stalls for horses in training, she will not accept more horses than she can personally ride on a regular basis.
